In my cuttings guides I make a point to tell the reader to avoid planting cuttings with flowers or buds on it. Flowers take a lot of energy to form and maintain in a plant and when you’re trying to root a cutting, distractions are the last thing your plant needs. In most cases it will lead to greater chances of success to plant a cutting that has no such energy debt to a flower. I still stand by that advice as I feel it is good overarching advice that will lead to better outcomes when propagating.
However…
Plants aren’t so simple.
I’m making this post to show that your plants WILL surprise you.
They can:
Survive something they shouldn’t.
React better than expected to strange stimuli
Thrive despite your best efforts to forget about them.
Fly in the face of all common sense. (I’ve grown my Kanna hydroponically! That doesn’t make sense to me yet)
Am I saying that you should abuse your plants and do weird things to them without worrying about damaging them? No, definitely not.
I’m saying that if you work with a plant for long enough, they’ll start to show you what they are capable of. If you listen to them.
